#5 – Financial Freedom / Travel Pay

Coming in fifth in our Top 5 Reasons to Become a Travel PT are the financial incentives.

The reason why money did not land higher on the list is simple: Compared to the other 4 reasons it just is not as big of a deal!

Sure, there are quite a few folks who make it seem that travel therapy is just about the Almighty Dollar.  But there are so many other reasons why travel therapy is the best career choice available to therapists of all disciplines (at least for a season)!

Now, we have written extensively about the financial benefits of travel therapy.  How travel PT pays better than most perm jobs.  How we used travel therapy to pay off our graduate school debt. I even wrote a huge e-book about how to Make More Money as a travel therapists.  The financial benefits of being a traveler are fantastic!

In summary:

  • Take home pay is often considerably higher than permanent jobs.
  • Tax obligations are much lower (unless you are taking a local contract).
  • In some cases bonuses can provide a much needed boost to the bank account.

All of these factors set you up nicely to regain a financial foothold on your life and begin to work towards whatever financial goals you have for yourself.

We recommend taking the debt free approach.  We reached this goal relatively quickly, and it has enabled us to take months off at a time without any significant financial commitments (ie. student loan payments, credit card payments, car payments, etc.) to speak of.  The best part about it was that, as travelers, we were pounding away at our debt but still living in vacation destinations that others would only dream of, and we had adventures our friends could hardly believe.

All in all, the choice to become travel physical therapists has been, by far, the best one we have ever made.  The financial freedom that comes after a few years of traveling has set us up nicely for building a solid future for Kinley and our family, just as it will for you too!
